Welcome to the 2008 Wharton Energy Conference

About the Wharton Energy Conference

As one of the world’s oldest and finest business schools, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania is dedicated to educating the leaders of the organizations which will develop, fund, commercialize, scale, and implement solutions to meet the world’s energy challenges. Each year, the Wharton Energy Club, an independent, student-run organization at the Wharton School, sponsors the Wharton Energy Conference.

The day-long conference attracts more than 200 students and energy industry professionals and is covered by the Wharton Journal, our student run weekly newspaper, and by Knowledge@Wharton, the school’s online business journal which is published in 3 languages and reaches over 900,000 subscribers in 189 countries. Wharton is one of the only business schools with an annual energy event that encompasses the variety of fields related to energy including renewables, oil and gas, power, energy finance, and energy policy. Past keynote speakers have included James Woolsey, former director of the CIA, and Peter Robertson, vice-chairman of Chevron Corporation.

The 2008 Wharton Energy Conference is scheduled for Friday, November 21, at the Union League of Philadelphia. We are absolutely obsessed with making this Conference unique and engaging. We want it to feel different and deeper from the medley of other conferences that populate the calendars of industry professionals and students. To that end, we have:

  • Invited three keynote speakers who are knowledgeable, passionate, and occasionally irreverent
  • Developed three panel sessions that will zero in on sharply-defined themes critical to the future of energy and that will feature panelists who are eager to captivate the audience by sharing their expertise and strong opinions
  • Created the concept of “themed tables”: To foster productive connections and conversations, each table during lunch will have an assigned theme. Industry professionals will serve as “table captains” for the particular theme. Conference attendees can select the theme that most interests them and participate in a fruitful discussion.

We are excited to welcome you to a conference that you will never forget.
